Residents seeking to serve on the city councils or school boards in Greene County may file their nomination paperwork now. The deadline for nominations is Thursday, Sept. 16. Nominating petitions are available at the county auditor’s office at the courthouse for city positions, and at the board office for the two school districts.

Jefferson has three council seats on the ballot – those held currently by Darren Jackson, Harry Ahrenholtz and Pat Zmolek.

The city of Scranton will elect a mayor and two council members. Current office holders are mayor Cole Gustoff with Jerald R Boyd and David M Diederiksen on the council.

In Rippey, mayor Dan Brubaker’s term is up as well as council members Garry W. Higgins and Donald Carpenter.

Churdan will elect a mayor and two council members. Joleen Killeen is serving as mayor while Nick Christianson and Heidi Geisler are on the council.

Dana has mayor Mandy Sims and council members Anthony Sims and Christopher Vargas on the ballot.

Grand Junction will elect a mayor and three council members. Current office holders are mayor Jerry Herrick and council members Andy Krieger, Michelle Hillman and Lori Kennedy, who has resigned with an appointment to fill the vacancy planned in September.

Steve Burrell is serving as the mayor of Paton. The seats held by Matt Fox and Diane Hanlon will be on the ballot as well as the spot held by Jake Bohnet, who was appointed to fill a vacancy.

The two school districts will each elect three directors. The terms of Steve Karber, Mike Dennhardt and Catherine Wilson expire on the Greene County Schools board of education.

The Paton-Churdan board will fill the seats currently held by Mitch Stream, Dennis Tilley and Sarah Obinna.

City candidates need to turn in their nomination and affidavit of candidacy papers to the county auditor’s office by 5 pm on Sept. 16. Jefferson requires a minimum of 25 signatures while the other cities in the county need only 10 signatures.

The Greene County School directors need a minimum of 50 signatures while P-C must have at least 10. That paperwork must be filed with the school board secretary by 5 pm on Sept. 16. The secretary then files the information with the auditor’s office by noon on Sept. 17.

Also on the ballot is a countywide referendum on the gaming license required to operate Wild Rose Casino. Per state law, voters must reaffirm the desire to have a licensed gaming operation in the county eight years after the initial referendum in order to maintain the gaming license. This will be the final time voters will be asked to vote on the issue.

Persons who want more information about the upcoming election can contact the auditor’s office at 515-386-5680.
